於1985年成軍的goo goo dolls，來自美國紐約州水牛城、原名the sex maggots，由johnny rzeznik (主唱/吉他手)、robby takac (貝斯手)、mike malinin(鼓手)三人組成，1987、1989年分別由celluloid與metal blade廠牌發行的“goo goo dolls”、“jed”兩張專輯，都不能算是正式發行，現今也早已經是絕版商品了，而且這時候的主唱是由貝斯手takac擔任，rzeznik只在少數歌曲中演唱，直到1990年的“hold me up”，rzeznik才正式接下主唱一職，此專輯才被普遍公認為是樂團的首張主流專輯。1993年的“superstar car wash”，樂團正式擺脫較陰暗的grunge曲目，由rzeznik開拓較明亮、較為樂迷熟悉的搖滾情歌，也是從這裡開始goo goo dolls的音樂旅程才漸漸上軌道。
1995年，goo goo dolls以專輯“a boy named goo”率先破冰，打開主流市場知名度(billboard 200 #27、美國雙白金唱片認證)；1998年再以“dizzy up the girl”達到樂團事業最巔峰(billboard 200 #15、美國三白金唱片認證)，祭出長年不敗情歌「iris」；睽違4年，再以專輯“gutterflower”愈戰愈勇(billboard 200 #4、美國金唱片認證)，直到2007年的billboard 200 #9專輯“let love in”，這些曠世金曲與傲人成績，造就了goo goo dolls在樂壇的魅力與地位，這個擁有太多膾炙人口情歌的樂團，在眾多電影中都有他們的歌曲出現，最令大眾耳熟能詳的電影【x情人】主題曲「iris」只不過是樂團涉足電影界的冰山一角。
2007年，樂團推出成軍22年來的首張精選“volume one”，其中收錄所有進榜過的強勁單曲(billboard 200專輯榜#33、首周在美賣出33萬張)，2008年則更貼近樂迷以及消費者的心，在此第二張精選“volume 2”中收錄過去珍貴罕見歌曲、歷年專輯歌曲、翻唱曲共22首，包括：1998年專輯裡的「all eyes on me」現場版；demo版「iris」；1995年專輯中穿插在電影【龍捲風】裡的「long way down」(現代搖滾榜#25、主流搖滾榜#7)、只收錄於電影【蝙蝠俠四：急凍人】原聲帶裡的「lazy eye」(主流搖滾榜#20、現代搖滾榜#9)、首度搭配電影【半夜鬼上床6：猛鬼末日】的歌曲「i’m awake now」、重新翻唱澳洲樂團inxs名曲並獨家收錄在電影【王牌威龍2】原聲帶中的「don’t change」，也攬下已不再生產的同名專輯中歌曲「torn apart」、1989年專輯“jed”的「no way out」、1993年“superstar car wash”專輯的「string of lies」、「stop the world」等早期創作，更將goo goo dolls翻唱the plimsouls、the damned、fleetwood mac、tom petty and the heartbreakers等樂團的歌曲納入此精選；重點還不只是這樣而已，dvd更收錄樂團17支歷年暢銷歌曲的音樂錄影帶，以及六首在red rocks的現唱演唱畫面。此張超值且珍藏價值極高的精選輯，更能讓你的goo goo dolls收藏更臻完美！
